GREATER Whange Residents Trust has welcomed the decision by government to relax lockdown measures, as most of the residents who are in the informal sector were beginning to feel the pinch.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Monday announced new lockdown measures where he literally freed the economic sector on condition that the sector remains guided by World Health Organisation (WHO) guidelines.
“We welcome the relaxation of covid-19 regulations as most of the small to medium enterprises (SMS) were going to collapse considering that the government had no bailout plan,” said Fidelis Chima, the coordinator of the residents trust.
The announcement has come as a great relief to local residents who had endured torrid moments with police constantly descending on them as they tried to irk a living through vending.
Chima however also called for the need for government to expedite the re-opening of schools.
This comes after Mnangagwa announced that schools and colleges should start preparing for the reopening.
“Children should go back to school. It is a welcome development by ED to say school will soon open.”
Among the raft of measures announced by Mnangagwa include the adjustment of curfew time from 10pm to 5 am, shops to close at 7:30 pm, with intercity travel now allowed. 50 people are now required for social gatherings while funeral gatherings remain at 30.
