POLICE have arrested a villager at Dinde , Hwange District for allegedly inciting fellow villagers to resist a coal exploration process by a Chinese company this afternoon.
Tensions have been soaring between the community and Beifer Investments who are said to have started exploring the “black gold” at a time when government had assured villagers that no mining activity will take place as consultations were taking place.
Mining resources watchdog, Centre for Natural Resource Governance( CNRG) posted on their Twitter handle:
“Never Tshuma from Katambe Village in Dinde has been arrested. He is accused of inciting villagers to resist exploration for coal. Beifer Investments, operated by Chinese nationals with the backing of the State, started coal exploration in the community today.”
