THE Muboola Community Garden in Dobola ward under Chief Pashu in Binga South Constituency has sent an SOS for solar power to irrigate a variety of their crops

“We got our first harvest. We did not only sell but also got a taste of the crop we thought cannot be grown in Binga, the only challenge for which we are appealing for assistance is that of a solar power as the generator (to irrigate crops) is not only costly but unsustainable,” said Jerina Mudimba a beneficiary and caretaker of the project.
The coming of the dry season has unearthed an urgent need for a constant power supply of water that can only be solved by the availability of solar energy.
“We had our first soya bean crop harvested and now we have planted onions that are doing well and we welcome you to Muboola community garden to come and see for yourselves,” she said.
Jabulani Mudenda the director and founder of Hope Trust Zimbabwe said solar power was their only appeal.
“However, we have realised that pumping a 10000 liters water tank using a diesel powered generator is not only costly but unsustainable if we are to consider the distance from where we get fuel. We can be very grateful to a well-wisher who can assist with funds to install solar power,’’ he said.
He however said proper fencing was needed to keep livestock away especially at this time of the year when they are roaming freely.
The Muboola Community Garden which has 27 households is there to assist and empower vulnerable members of Pashu Community who have been failing to pay school fees hence the rise in school dropouts.
