Tsholotsho Women in Brick Moulding Club…as they appeal for help to build strong houses

WOMEN in Tsholotsho’s Ward 10 have come up together to start a club meant to assist each other build better homes in their area.

The club Masincedisaneni from Village 6 and Newa 9 was mooted last year with the idea of moulding bricks that are strong to withstand harsh weather conditions that have always been experienced in the dry area of Tsholotsho.

“We have four members and each one of us contributes R250 every month. Our vision is to help each other build beautiful and strong own houses.

“Last year we managed to buy 10 bags of cement for each member and we successfully managed to mould bricks for our houses. This came after we realised that during the rainy season our houses collapse due to excessive rains hence we want to build strong houses that can withstand these rains,” the club chair Promise Tshuma told The Zambezi Times.

The club, noticing the high financial demand for the building material and that of the builders, they became part of other different clubs in the area. 

“We realised that we needed more money for our project, so we then joined other clubs in the area and we are now in seven groups. Each club has a joining fee of $1000.

“A day before yesterday we received $7 000 and we will use the funds to buy cement. For next February, we have plans to buy roofing sheets since we receive these funds twice a year then on our second round we can start building. Though we have other clubs of R2O per member, they are helping us. We hope to start paying deposit fees to our builders as well,” Tshuma said.

She however appealed for assistance from well-wishers.

“It’s not easy for women to start such self-help projects as part of improving our welfare. We are just trying our best with the hope that one day we may get assistance from well-wishers such that we can build beautiful and strong homes that cannot be affected by strong winds and rains.”
