A 73 year old Binga man Nicholas Mudimba whose leg was amputated following a landmine accident two decades ago is appealing for help from wellwishers.
Mudimba, who looks after seven people and lives under Chief Pashu area, was hit by a landmine in 1999, 19 years after independence resulting in the amputation of his left leg.
Although he got an artificial leg in 1999 through the department of social welfare, the challenge now is that the man-made leg has out lived its lifespan.
It is worn out and unrepairable.
This has affected Mudimba’s efforts to fend for his family and toiling in the fields.
Mudimba is seeking for a well wisher to buy one as he cannot afford.
“All my movements are dependent on the artitificial leg, I have tried to repair it but any alteration worsens the situation. I have to care for my livestock , family of seven that includes my 91 year old mother,” he said.
Meanwhile, Dr Jabulani Mudenda of Hope Ministries has called on well wishers after inquiring on the cost involved in purchasing a new artificial leg.
“As Hope Ministries , we appeal to the public to join hands as we reach out to the in accessible,” said Mudenda.
According to an inquiry done by this publication, the artificial leg cost between US$ 900 and US$1200.
