STATE owned telecommunications company Netone has joined the global technological advancement wave by going paperless, introducing the Electronic Top Up Service.
Speaking at a Dealer Appreciation Cocktail held in Bulawayo on Friday evening, Netone’s Zone 2 commander Elmah Dube, hailed her organisation’s new digital position.
She said Netone’s innovation was meant to address the needs of clients.
“Many of you here have already embraced this service and are enjoying great convenience and benefits in the distribution of airtime,” Dube said.
She, however took time to elaborate on how to the new service functions.
“E-Top Up as it is known is an electronic airtime distribution service that allows you, our stakeholders, to buy and distribute airtime virtually,” she explained.
Dube added: “The service can easily be accessed via USSD code *519#.”
She also told NetOne stakeholders that due to the novel Corona virus the service was designed with strict observance of social distancing protocols among many other guidelines.
“In this Covid era, this limits your exposure to the disease, as there is no need for physical presence when you buy and distribute airtime,” said Dube.
“This brings about great convenience as airtime can now be moved 24/7 thus greatly reducing stock outs.”
Dube assured the dealers and other stakeholders that all necessary measures are in place to ensure the flexibility and ease of using the paperless system.
“What this clearly shows is that NetOne has largely gone paperless. Meaning you can now do more, do better, with less,” she said.
“The world is evolving towards environmentally friendly business practices, and NetOne fully intends to stand up and be counted in such endeavours.”
The environmental friendly facility is envisioned to add on the mix of the organisation’s stance on keeping the environment clean.
“E-Top up is now the turnkey solution towards ensuring that we keep the environment clean by going paperless,” she added.
The zone 2 commander reiterated that NetOne fused contributions made by all stakeholders in developing the E top up platform which now comes with a cocktail of benefits.
“We also ensured there are no charges when sending float (airtime) to other dealers or vendors or on a vendor to vendor transfers. What is sent is what is received and sold,” Dube said.
“We have already created a support network to ensure that the transactions are flawless. Indeed, challenges were experienced at inception but these have been addressed and efficiency has been restored.”

According to the zone 2 commander, continuous development of the facility will be an ongoing.
“We will continue to improve the platform in line with any other suggestions from key stakeholders.
This includes intense Marketing efforts to ensure a higher demand for NetOne lines and airtime as many of you will have seen from the new NetOne GigaThanks promotion,” she said adding that, “this promotion will run until February and has already started giving away rewards to the more than 300,000 lucky subscribers who will win”
