HWANGE Central Member of Parliament Daniel Molokele has channeled funds from the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) towards the revamping of 11 schools in his constituency.
The constituency received $400 000 in CDF funds for the period of 2018-2020. Molokele said the disbursement of the funds for refurbishing the schools will cover only urban schools that are in a poor state.
“Funds we received will cover only urban school because they are in a dire state, the rural schools will be catered for in the next funds disbursement. If we include the rural schools this money will not be enough for adequate refurbishment,” he said.
The office of the MP will paint administration blocks and renovate all the broken doors, windows and desks within the administration blocks.
“We want the administration blocks to be neat and presentable, that is why we want to engage the locals in doing the job,” said Molokele as he encouraged the urban schools to work with local contractors to renovate the schools’ administration blocks.
Previously, the office of the MP had indicated that the CDF funds would be used to fund the establishment of the Hwange Community Radio but Parliament did not approve the plan.
“Indeed, we once targeted the Hwange Community Radio to benefit in the disbursements of CDF funds but we faced challenges in convincing the funders,” he said.
Meanwhile, a member of the School Development Committee of Nechibondo Primary School, Cecil Ndlovu, has applauded the efforts made by the office of the MP in revamping the schools’ infrastructure in Hwange Central Constituency.
“The efforts are greatly appreciated but we would be happier if the funds would benefit the pupils directly since they have not been learning during much of this global pandemic of Covid-19,” he said.
Schools expected to benefit from the CDF funds include, Makwika, Lusumbami, Sir Humphrey, Mabinga, St Ignatius, Nechibondo and Lwendulu primary schools, and Hwange High, Wankie and Chilisa secondary schools.
Each of the country’s 210 Members of Parliament is given funding annually by Government to help develop their constituencies.
