VICTORIA Falls Combined Residents Association (VIFACORA) has promised to fight violent crimes in the resort city with the help of other key stakeholders in the security sector.
In a notice to residents last week, the association assured its residents that the upsurge in violent crimes in the city is a passing phase as security measures are being tightened.
“VIFACORA has noted with much concern, the two consecutive robberies that have happened in our beautiful city on the 2nd and 3rd of July 2021 respectively,” reads the notice in part.
The robbery which put the city in panic mode occurred at the Chinotimba 24 Hour Emergency Medical Centre. This robbery came within days after another local resident lost his Toyota Fortuner to gun trotting robbers.
The association which represents the residents is also responsible for the safety of people and their property in the city through working with various stakeholders including resident themselves to secure their interests.
Speaking to The Zambezi Times, VIFACORA Secretary General Nguquko Tshili said residents must not be intimidated by the two isolated cases of violent crimes.
“We would want to confirm to the residents that all the security organs have reassured us that our City will remain a crime free destination as they are putting in place the necessary measures to curb the invasion by these robbers,” said Tshili.
Victoria Falls is one of the world’s most adored tourist destinations, known for its cool, safe and relaxing environment without much crime affecting the tourism industry.
Tshili said all residents must be vigilant to protect the city.
“This initiative will also require the resident’s collaboration for swift communication before, during and after these crimes have been committed. In that regard we would also like to urge residents to always be on the lookout for any suspects that cause danger and loss of property to our beautiful City,” said Tshili.
Meanwhile, the police recovered the stolen Toyota Fortuner in Gweru following a recent high speed chase with the cops.
