THE Victoria Falls council has embarked on a street lighting programme in a bid to fight crime in the resort city while also boosting tourism.
Government embarked on a Covid-19 mass vaccination exercise in the resort town to bring back tourism into life following the sustained lockdown.
Reports say the resort town has achieved herd immunity with about 60 percent of residents now vaccinated.
Building on the success towards reviving tourism, the council said it was also embarking on a street lighting program to ensure the safety of both tourists and residents.
“The development serves to benefit the community of Victoria Falls and its visitors; hence, members of the public are encouraged to help the Local Authority in selfishly guarding the infrastructure and reporting any form of vandalism to the authorities,” council said in a notice.
“This is part of Council’s commitment to make the destination safe and accessible at night to residents and visitors through smart and efficient technologies.”
Tourism is one of the country’s major foreign currency earners. Victoria Falls is cited as one of the Seven Wonders of the World.
