Government Fulfils Promises On San Communities

GOVERNMENT will start a mobile identification documentation exercise targeting the San community in Tsholotsho on September 13.

This was revealed by Home Affairs minister Kazembe Kazembe during  a visit to the San yesterday.

Cabinet recently announced a number of measures to alleviate the perennial problems of the San community.

“This what we have been yearning for years. We want to have birth certificates and national identity cards as our children for long had been living as aliens in their own motherland,” said an elderly lady who preferred to be called Mrs Moyo.

Mexen Ndlovu who is a councilor   for the San community added: “As local leadership we are always overwhelmed by people who need assistance but they always get frustrated on the fact that they cannot access documents because they not have identity particulars”

Chief Siphoso encouraged the San communities to come in their numbers to have national identity particulars and birth certificates for their kids.

“Take advantage of this registration exercise so that you can participate in voting exercise and may other and some of you  can always a have a chance of becoming councilors everyone has to have national identity documents,” said Chief Siphoso.

Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Senator Monica Mutsvagwa in a post Cabinet briefing recently said government was committed to on record to correcting the socio-economic needs of the San community. 

“Cabinet wishes to inform the nation that the Second Republic has made undertakings to ensure that the right to equality and non-discrimination is realised. 

“Section 56 of the Constitution clearly states that “every person has the right not to be treated in an unfairly discriminatory manner on such grounds as their ethnic or social origin,” she said.
