ENGINEERS from the Zimbabwe National Army have managed to build a classroom block at Sipepa primary school in Tsholotsho as Devolution funds continue to benefit many communities in the province.
Having received over $25 million in devolution funds Tsholotsho Rural District council embarked on construction of six clinics and a primary school.
Nkululeko Sibanda Tsholotsho Rural district chief executive officer shared with The Zambezi Times that they had been receiving devolution funds last year.
“$5 million was received in 2019 while in 2020 we received $3 million and for this year we got $17.7 million. We are glad that the funds have been used towards building of a classroom block at Sipepa primary School and the sprucing and rehabilitation of Nkunzi, Jowa, Sikente and Madlangombe clinics,” Sibanda said.
Devolution funds have been applauded for letting communities decide on areas needing development.
He said the damaged Jowa clinic in ward 9 has been restored while staff accommodation has been constructed added that more funds are needed so as to complete some works at Sipepa primary school
Sibanda also said Sikente and Madlangombe clinics in ward 10 have since been roofed
“ We have managed to do some civil works fixing electrical faults at Nkunzi clinic while Nshaba Clinic in Ward 16 solar panels have been fitted and some works have been done,”said Sibanda.
He added: “Building of the Sipepa classroom block will ensure decongestion of pupils in a class and ensure rural development through emancipation of students. Fixing electrical faults will ensure good lighting which is important for patients and health workers. Fitting of solar panels and plumbing will warrant a good drainage system and lighting for better health service delivery.”
Sibanda is expecting his council to have finished solar panel and plumbing works at Jowa, Sinkente and Inala clinics by the end of September
Sibanda applauded the government for releasing devolution funds which are improving the livelihoods of Tsholotsho.
