BUBI Rural District Council has been put under pressure to work with young people in all its developmental projects, in a way that will empower communities in the gold rich district.
The Bubi RDC is one of the many countrywide that received devolution funds from government to augment development projects that include the building of schools, clinics, road rehabilitation and other public amenities.
In April, the council was given $29 million towards road works and close to 600 locals were hired to partake in the project at different levels.
But, in all this, as many young people were left out.
In a wide ranging interview with Zambezi Times, young people said they want to be involved in all development projects.
“We call upon the Bubi Rural District Council to consider working with young people. So many of us are unemployed and we feel it is high time we have a sense of purpose by working for the development of our area,” said Nick Nxumalo.
He said it is also the duty of the council to avail land for various youth oriented projects such as farming and mining.
“Let us be allowed to determine our future by establishing self-sustaining projects here at Inyathi. We want to do farming and such other businesses that will change our lives and improve household income.”
Most young people in Bubi district are involved in small-scale mining activities, with some that are employed by large gold mining companies.
