THE Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service (ZPCS) has taken a move to recruit the San/Tjwao youths, the first such move since independence.

Nick Mangwana, Permanent Secretary for Information, Publicity & Broadcasting Services made the revelations on his Twitter account.

“The ZPCS has started implementing a deliberate policy of recruiting officers from members of the san community. They are starting with 20 individuals, yesterday the commissioner General met with the first three females and seven males,” Mangwana tweeted.

This follows a recent visit to Tsholotsho Prison by Commissioner-General Moses Cyril Ngavaite Chihobvu where he also met San/Tjwao youths

In a move envisaged to advance the socio economic status of the San/Tjwao communities, the Minister of Environment, Climate, Tourism and Hospitality Industry, Hon. Mangaliso Ndlovu spells out inclusion of san community.

Government’s current blue print, the National Development Strategy 1:  2021-2025 seeks to articulate social economic and political advancement of previously marginalized communities.

“On the Conservation project for the San Community , recruitment interviews for general hands and rangers, training in basic paramilitary,’’ said Ndlovu.

In a bid to empower marginalized people the government did make a commitment to incorporate the Doma people in the Zimbabwe National Parks.

The Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Authority (Zimparks) has trained rangers from the Doma community in Kanyemba, as part of integrating marginalised communities into the country’s national development agenda.

When this comes to fruition, training and recruitment of the San people will accord them a participatory approach in the conservation of natural resources found in their area of habitation and the nation at large.

Government is announced plans to make all the necessary efforts to bring development into marginalised societies across the country
