HWANGE central legislator Daniel Molokeli has failed to help people launch 20 companies which were his brain child.
Impeccable sources at Hwange said soon after election as a Member of Parliament (MP) Molokeli came up with 21 company ideas to empower his constituency.
The companies were to be run by people from Hwange Central.
The companies included Anytime Bakery, Green Gold, Zambezi Poultry Farm Land, Inyuchi, Kalongi, Agronomy, Hwange Chicken City, Hwange Publishing, Water Bottling, Hwange Bricks, Hwange Goats, Whange Pork Products and Whange Law Chambers.
However, all these save for one have become shelf companies and have failed to take off because Molokeli refused to inject funding.
“Most of the companies are not functional. They all lack funding. He set up the structures of the companies and told shareholders that he wouldn’t make any financial contribution. Then people took it upon themselves to register the companies using their own money. Those who had no money were left outside. The MP couldn’t help them,” said the source.
“He claimed that he was setting them to help his constituency. He promised never to interfere in day to day running of the companies,” added the source.
Whange Pork Products chief executive, Simba Mureyani corroborated this saying: “Molokeli came up with ideas of 21 companies and I and my partners merged and registered a company using our own money. The agreement was that we would run our companies for ourselves and we went on to inject funds to kick star operations”.
Further, Molokeli is accused of having employed people for Whange Law Chambers and failed to pay them.
“For Whange Law Chambers, he employed workers, made them sign contracts and never gave them work. He didn’t pay them,” added another source.
But, one company out of the 21, Whange Pork Products is functional and Molokeli is accused of interference.
“My company out of the 21 is the only one operational and Molokeli through his assistant requested me to bring with me all the company documents and I refused,” said Mureyani.
“As for Whange Pork Products we bought our own pigs and fed them from our own pockets. There was no written agreement. Verbal agreement was that he would be happy to see the companies grow and wouldn’t interfere,” he added.
Asked about this Molokeli said: “We have resolved our differences. The office of the MP has decided not to be involved (Whange Pork Products). We have disengaged totally”.
