VICTORIA Falls residents are in living in fear of a second wave of Corona virus outbreak following announcement that seven family members tested positive for the pestilence.
Kelvin Moyo, chairman of Victoria Falls Combined Residents Association (VIFACORA) yesterday told The Zambezi Times that residents are apprehensive of contracting the contagious virus.
“The fear is inevitable and we have so far conscientised our residents to stick to the Covid-19 health protocols to try and mitigate the spread,” said Moyo.
He further said that the residents thought that they had passed the grave stage of the virus until last week.
“Until a week ago we have thought we had escaped the vice but only to hear about the 8 suspected cases,” said Moyo.
The ministry of health announced last Thursday that eight people from Victoria Falls tested positive for Covid-19.
Of the eight, seven were family members who had been placed on self-isolation at home after testing positive.
The seven were contacts of a local case that had travelled to Bulawayo and tested positive on return. The case was initially symptomatic but has now improved and is asymptomatic. The seven are not symptomatic and are isolated at home.
All the patients are adults.
The eighth case is a truck driver who has been quarantined at an isolation centre.
In March, Victoria Falls was the first in the country to record a Covid-19 case. However, the patient has recovered.
However, there were renewed fears that Victoria Falls, which is a resort town will be the epicenter of Covid-19 due to the influx of tourists.
However, the town has recorded few cases until last Thursday.
As of last week, Matabeleland North had a total of 153 confirmed cases and 139 recoveries.
