GOVERMENT has suspended absconding nurses at public hospitals, a move that will exacerbate the country’s health delivery system crisis.
A suspension letter cited by this publication accused the nurse for failing to report for duty.
“You failed to obey a lawful instruction by not reporting for duty after being duly notified to stop the flexi working hours and resume to normal 40 working hours per week (head of ministry letter dated 19 October 2020) and this constitute an act of misconduct on your part,” reads part of the letter dated 30 October.
“Accordingly, you are hereby suspended without pain term of Section 6(1) of the Labour (National Employment Code of Conduct) Regulations, 2006 with immediate effect.”
The ministry of health recently cancelled the flexi hour system and ordered nurses to resort to the old 40 hour a week system.
The flexi hour system, which reduced working hours for nurses was introduced in November 2019, as a means to placate the workers who were complaining of low salaries.
Contacted for comment Enock Dongo, the Zimbabwe Nurses Association (ZINA) president kept saying he was in a series of meetings.
