MATABELELAND North Provincial Affairs minister, Richard Moyo has reiterated the importance of taking Covid-19 vaccinations.

Zimbabwe received 200,000 doses of Sinopharm Covid-19 vaccines which were donated by the Chinese government and it has since been distributed to all provinces for the initial roll out of the vaccination programme.

Addressing journalists at a media briefing, the minister said citizens need to take the vaccination programme seriously as it was good for their protection against Covid-19.

“I am speaking from experience as you know I was once attacked by the virus and as per the requirements I underwent self-isolation and thank God I recovered however then the  vaccination was not yet availed to us so people should take it  to get protected and avoid this life threating experience of Covid-19,” he said.

The minister expressed optimism about people heeding his call.

“The vaccines are now in our hands, I want to encourage everyone to get vaccinated it’s better to get vaccinated so as to avoid the scary situation of the Covid-19.”

Moyo also said people in his province should take a leaf from the vice president Constantine Chiwenga who doubles up as Minister of Health and Child Care who took it upon himself to get the first jab.

“I would like to thank him a lot for dispelling fears that the vaccine might not be good as such me and my entire office, all essential workers including journalist should be vaccinated first,” he said.

Moyo added: “I would like to emphasize to the people of Matabeleland North Province that the vaccination is free of charge and when you hear someone saying it’s paid for report him to the police,” he said.
