From Primary to High school we learn all there is to be learnt about in this world and we hardly learn about this one important thing that makes our world go round. We hardly learn about money management and life is continuing to teach me these lessons daily. Let me share with you some life lessons I have been learning about money in the school of finance:
1. Don’t pay interest to acquire something that loses value
Never pay interest in something that won’t make interest for you. Never pay extra for something that will never give you extra. We love to look good, smell good and drive good but try as much as you can to avoid paying interest of commodities that loose value like clothes, cars and food. Never pay interest for SWAG (fashion trends etc.) that is seasonal because your life is not seasonal.
2. Know who to admire
Admire people who earn more money than you, not people who spend more money than you.
3. Life style determinant
A raise in income should never mean a raise in lifestyle. Never upgrade your lifestyle until you have 100% assurance that you can maintain and sustain it.
4. Investment priorities
Invest in your mind and skills first. Investing in your mind and skills gives room for advancements in your finances and it gives your options.
5. Investment timing
The rich people around us did not become rich for them to invest but they invested to become rich. In other ways you don’t have to become rich to invest but you should invest to become rich. The only timing you need is opportunity and if it’s not there create your own.
Like everything else in life, if we learn the best way to take care of money it will then take care of us. We don’t need to get rich so as to learn how to take care of finances rather we should learn from the little we get so as to grow it to more and eventually much.
