COMMUNITIES living between Bulawayo and Hwange who are on the verge of being displaced by the Zimbabwe Power Company (ZPC) project will soon put their woes behind.
The ZPC is currently erecting a 335km long overhead power line which is part of the Hwange Power Station Expansion Project.

The power line runs from Hwange substation to Insukamini electricity substation in Bulawayo. To pave the way for the power line, ZPC was forced to seek the displacement permit for all villagers who were on the pathway. In the process about 80 households were affected.
“We are building about 80 houses. Most of the people are in a place called Mazwi village in Bulawayo where there are 29 affected households and we are building 29 houses,” site manager of the Hwange Expansion project Forbes Chanakira said.
He said so far they have been building two and three roomed houses for the affected villagers depending with the structure one used to own before the relocation.
He however said only one household who had a four bedroomed house, benefited from a six bedroomed house.
“Most of them had flat-roomed houses but we are building better ones for all of them. We also have 19 households in a place called Hope Fountain also in the environs of Bulawayo. We also have households who were affected by the transmission corridor from Bulawayo coming to Hwange in an area called Chezhou, Bambanani, Gwayi and Sawmills,” Chanakira said.
