SOUTH AFRICAN based Zimbabwean rapper, Mc Tytoh real name Titus Marume has encouraged fellow artists across genres to take advantage of the new media and stop complaining about lack of adequate airplay.
After countless pleas, at the mercy of mainstream radio stations artistes have welcomed and embraced brand new online radio stations.
The new online platform has been hailed by many artists who have been frustrated by their careers due to lack of airplay.
“The online station whose flagship show, The Hip-hop Connection has reached unbelievable figures in terms of listenership, playing 80% of hip-hop from Zimbabwe and 20% from the rest of Africa.
“It has attracted attention from artistes as far as Nigeria with sizeable submissions from Africa’s most populated nation,” said Mc Tytoh.
MC Tytoh who is the producer and presenter of the flagship show which is broadcast during the prime time slot from 1800 to 2100hrs everyday making it the only station in Zimbabwe to broadcast 21hours of hip-hop exclusively.
“Our mission is not only giving artists an outlet but a platform where they can present their art in its raw form uncensored and unfiltered in terms of language, religion, and politics or otherwise.
“Weekends will have seen local house Djs and producers gracing the airwaves on the weekend house party with a 3 way Djs battle providing amazing weekend radio entertainment.
“DJ Kush Karter the station manager produces a unique show called, The Album Focus everyday between 1200 and 1300 hrs where focus is given to one album for a full hour uninterrupted,” he said.
“So far ZIMA and Zim hip-hop awards best group winners theDot and Criss Swiss, Lee mchonney, Willis wattafi, Masa Caroleen have been featured on this segment with house sensation fiver billed for the Saturday edition,” he said.
Dj Kush however encouraged artists to send their music to their platform so that they can enjoy uninterrupted airplay.
