THE country has continued to witness a decline in Covid-19 daily infections, deaths and hospitalisations as the ravaging third wave of the pandemic continues to loosen up.
According to the Ministry of Health and Child Care’s latest update the seven day rolling average for new cases fell to 255 from 268 as of Saturday.
“Seventy (70) new cases, all local and 11 deaths [were] reported today (yesterday). As of 29 August 2021, Zimbabwe has recorded 124, 437 cases 111, 534 recoveries and 4, 401 deaths,” The update noted.
The ministry also noted that active Covid-19 cases have also fallen to 8,502 while indicating that at least 11 patients were in the Intensive Care Units.
A total of 1, 969 tests were conducted on Sunday coming out with a positivity rate of 3, 6 percent while 759 new recoveries were recorded, pushing the national recovery rate to 90 percent.
“As of 28 August 2021, at 1500 hours there were 217 hospitalised,”
The country is still under Level 4 lockdown as the government seeks to curb the spread of the disease. However, the easing of cases has raised hope to long suffering Zimbabweans that the government might finally consider lifting the much dreaded lockdown.
To date over 2.5 million Zimbabweans have received their first doses of the Covid-19 vaccines while 1.6 million have been fully vaccinated.
The government is on a drive to inoculate 10 million citizens by year end so as to reach herd immunity.
